"What a great site! I love it! I think changing the public perception of breastfeeding to show mums they can stay stylish and still breastfeed is much needed to fill a support void in Ireland. Culturally it is our public perception which holds so many people back.

Hi I am a midwife and lactation consultant.  I qualified as a midwife in the
UK in 1988 and the   majority of my work experience has been working in
Labour & Delivery & post natal ward in a community hospital in California.
While I was in California I repeated my midwifery education and qualified as
a Certified Nurse Midwife, I also obtained my BSc in Nursing.  However, the
most important education I received came from my own babies!! My twins were
born in 1997 and although breastfeeding them was challenging at times it was
also a wonderful experience and I absolutely fell in love with it.

In 2000 we moved back to Ireland and in 2001 I started teaching antenatal
classes for couples in the area and doing postnatal home visits for
breastfeeding mothers. In 2002 I saw the need for a local support group for
new mum's so I started up the Kinsale New Mothers Group, I run this on a
voluntary basis and the main objective is for new mothers to meet other new
mothers.  It has been a great success and 6 years on there are lots of mum's
in the area who have really appreciated the group for the support and
friends they have made.

Also over the years with my antenatal classes I began to realize that
pregnant women really needed more information on breastfeeding than I was
able to cover in the class.  So in 2005 I started teaching a Breastfeeding
Preparation Class for pregnant women.  In 2007 I qualified as an
International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.

I am delighted with this website because I know most mothers need support
during the early weeks and months after their baby is born.  Becoming a
mother is the most life changing event in a woman's life, it is wonderful,
but it is also challenging and it is great to be able to connect with other
women going through a similar experience. This website is wonderful way to
access support and advice and just general chat about breastfeeding. So I
wish you happy breastfeeding :).

The details of the services I offer are as follows:

Antenatal Classes - A course of six classes over six weeks in the Kinsale
area.  A wide range of topics are covered including; how labour works,
coping techniques to use for labour and birth, pain medication options and
going home with baby.  Each participant receives information handouts. DVD's
and books are also available for use.  Cost  €175.00.

Breastfeeding Preparation Class - A four hour course that teaches pregnant
women the basic principles of breastfeeding which will help the new mother
breastfeed successfully. Held monthly at the Vienna Woods Hotel, Glanmire,
Cork from 10am to 2pm.  Cost €90.00.

Postnatal Home Visits & Breastfeeding Support - This service is for mothers
who want help and support with breastfeeding or baby care.  Cost €80.00 per
one hour visit.

Kinsale Mothers Group - a venue for mothers to come and meet other mothers
and have tea/coffee in a relaxed and enjoyable environment.  Clare is also
there to answer any questions or concerns you may have. Everyone welcome.
Meet 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month (except July & August) from 11am to
1pm in St. Multose Hall, Kinsale. Cost €5.00
